The purpose of this site is to connect teachers of English as a Second language with others in the field. EFL Blogs is a listing of ESL / EFL teacher's blogs. By sharing ideas and experiences on their blogs hopefully everyone will come closer to what should be
the goal of any teacher, offering a great classroom environment for our students while loving where you are and what you are doing.

During my first year teaching (ESL) English as a second language or as this site refers to it (EFL) English as a foreign language, I came up with the idea for this site. If you are
new to the ESL scene then don't be scared I was also intimidated by all the different acronyms. Check out the growing list referenced from Wikipedia below...
- ESL (English as a second language)
- EFL (English as a foreign language)
- ESOL (English for speakers of other languages)
- ELT (English language teaching)
- TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language)
- TESL (teaching English as a second language)
- TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages)
- EAL (English as an additional language)
- EIL (English as an international language)
- ELF (English as a lingua franca)
- ESP (English for special purposes
- EAP (English for academic purposes)
- ELL (English language learner)
I had decided to teach English in South Korea but with this many names for the actual profession, a new culture, a new job, money, travel arrangements, and several other things on my mind,
it was a daunting process to get started. I searched on my own for answers and what I found was the blogs of the actual teachers themselves offered the most insight. The blogs from the ESL teachers showed
what life in Korea was like. Forums seemed good for a straight answer at times but also seemed so negative. On ESL teacher's blogs I could read about daily life and experiences to get a feel for what it was like.
I also learned a few tricks and made a few acquaintances(email is usually listed) along the way.
I began to think that possibly other popular ESL teaching destinations (Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, etc.)
would have ESL teachers wanting to share their ideas and build a bridge between all our great countries.
Fast-forward to today.... My first attempt at making my idea was not so smooth. I tried to do too much and lost sight of the true idea I had initially had. In September of this year(2010), I decided it was time
to revisit this idea and make it what I knew it could be.
